Educational resources

NOTE: All of these educational resources are in DRAFT form as at 25 April 2011. We want to do some live testing of them in Term 2 before taking the DRAFT tag off.

All of the activities in the Real Art Roadshow Educational Programme are designed to link to the New Zealand Curriculum for visual art and integrate the four learning areas:

Understanding the visual arts in context
Developing practical knowledge
Developing ideas
Communicating and interpreting

By participating in these four learning areas students will be working towards each of the achievement objectives. The students will:

Share ideas about how and why artworks are made and their purpose, value, and context
Explore a variety of materials and tools and discover elements and selected principles
Investigate visual ideas in response to observation
Share the ideas, feelings, and stories communicated by artworks

The idea lesson as outlined in each of the educational resources is 15 minutes of looking at the whole collection first and then a 15 minute activity for young students and 45 minutes for older students.

The Real Art Roadshow Education Programmes are in .docx format. We encourage you to use them, copy them or edit them to suit your individual school needs.

A note about the Real Art Roadshow Educator. These people are here to assist. They will lead the lesson if you have no one in your school confident to teacher their students about art, but ideally the RAR Educator is secondary to your own school staff.
